Flemington first for Adelaide’s Chris Bieg

Ample On Offa has given Adelaide trainer Chris Bieg a milestone first winner at Flemington.

Ridden by Beau Mertens, Ample On Offa sat behind the speed before scoring a fighting victory in the Asian Executive Stakes (1400m) on Saturday.

The victory was the five-year-old’s first success away from Morphettville where her previous seven wins had all been on the Parks track.

Ample On Offa ($8.50) scored a half-length win from the $3.40 favourite Diamond Baroness with Pure Pride ($4.80) three-quarters-of-a-length away third.

“This is my first winner at headquarters so I’m absolutely pumped,” Bieg said.

Bieg began training in Adelaide around five years ago after working in a fodder store.

He bought his first yearling, later to become Dashitude, for $5000 and she went on to win more than $300,000 prize money with a stakes race at Caulfield among her seven wins.

“At the fodder store I learned the ins and outs of nutrition so I thought why not put it into practice,” Bieg said.

“That’s how we have come to be here today.”

Bieg is now eyeing the Adelaide carnival in May with Ample On Offer.

He said the mare would be given a brief let-up.

“I’ll probably tip her out on the way back home and give her some time at the farm,” Bieg said.

“There’s a few Listed races at Morphettville during the carnival so we’ll have a crack at that.”
