The Barry Lockwood-trained Fiery Heights will appreciate a firm surface at Eagle Farm.

Speedy Fiery Heights has recovered fully from a tough Sydney trip to be poised to tackle the Group Two Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm.

Fiery Heights was far from disgraced in Sydney where he ran fifth in both the Group Three Maurice McCarten Stakes and Group Three Star Kingdom Stakes at Rosehill.

Trainer Barry Lockwood said the gelding had struck two heavy tracks which hadn’t suited him.

“He handles soft tracks but they were something else and were genuine very heavy surfaces,” Lockwood said.

“He led both races but eventually got bogged down and fought on well.

“I would expect him to be much better suited on a much better track at Eagle Farm.”

Lockwood said he would have started Fiery Heights a fortnight ago but scratched him when he was unhappy with the way he was eating.

“As it turned out it was nothing and he is pleasing me now,” he said.

Fiery Heights won the Listed Falvelon Quality which got him a wild card to the Magic Millions Sprint in January in which he was caught late y Egyptin Symbol,

“They ran very fast time in the Millions race. I know they do run extra fast times at the Coast but if he gets anywhere near the time on Saturday he will give them something to chase,,” Lockwood said.

Jim Orman who won the Falvelon on Fiery Heights is back on the gelding in Saturday’s race.

Redzel dominates the market with punters expecting him to bounce back from a winless Sydney campaign.
