Federer tipped for perfect treble after Wimbledon triumph
IT was not a long match, or even a competitive one, but the galleries at the All England Club were treated to something special on Sunday.
Roger Federer put on a clinic as he became the first person of any gender to win eight singles titles at the Wimbledon Championships.
The Swiss superstar’s relentless pressure and razor precision had Marin Cilic in tears halfway through the second set.
The 6-3, 6-1, 6-4 result made Federer both the oldest winner in the open era and the first since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to complete the tournament without dropping a set.
As he was absent for Rafael Nadal’s triumph at the French Open, it also means he is yet to lose a match in Grand Slam play this year.
No wonder his exploits have drawn plaudits from all walks of the sporting world.
What an absolute freak @rogerfederer is, 8th Wimbledon title unbelievable! #Wimbledon

Wimbledon champ Muguruza heads betting for US Open women’s title
It was also a big weekend for Garbine Muguruza, who blitzed Venus Williams with a stunning 6-0 second set to claim her first Wimbledon crown on Saturday.
The Spaniard proved excellent value for those canny punters who picked her up at pre-tournament odds of +1400.
She will be paying considerably less than that for the US Open.

She shares that quote with a strong group that includes world number two Simona Halep, Wimbledon semi-finalist Johanna Konta and 2016 US Open champion Angelique Kerber.
