F1 Hungarian Grand Prix 2024 betting tips & best race odds

F1 Hungarian Grand Prix betting preview

The F1 World Championship continues this weekend as we head to the Hungaroring for the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Practice 1 will begin at 9:30pm AEST on Friday, July 19, with the main race scheduled for 11pm on Sunday, July 21.

It was another dramatic affair two weeks ago in Britain, with Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton breaking a two-and-a-half-year drought to win his home Grand Prix. It was a heavily strategic race in wet conditions, with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris rounding out the podium.

As a result, Verstappen moved to 255 points in the drivers’ standings and extended his lead over the chasing pack, while Norris (171) leads Ferrari pair Charles Leclerc (150) and Carlos Sainz (146).

2024 Hungarian Grand Prix betting odds

As expected, Verstappen remains the strong favourite for this race, but these are his longest odds of the season, which shows the increased competitiveness of both McLaren and Mercedes.

Ferrari have dropped off in recent races, while Sergio Perez has struggled to match the success of his Red Bull teammate. There is plenty of value in the final two points positions, as the mid-table teams have all shown glimpses of quality this year.

Hungarian Grand Prix 2024 betting strategy

The safest bet of the race weekend is backing Max Verstappen to return to winning form. At the longest odds of the year, the Dutchman offers great value for someone who has won seven of the 12 races. The Red Bull driver has won the past two races at the track, so back him to do so once again at $1.83 with Bet365.

Sitting fifth in the drivers’ championship, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri has had an excellent season. The Australian has two podiums in 2024 and is unlucky not to have a third, as a poor strategic call ruined his chances at Silverstone. The 23-year-old continues to improve each week, so back him in for a podium finish at $2.50 with leading F1 bookmakers.

With consecutive sixth-place finishes, Nico Hulkenburg has made the most of Haas’ mid-season upgrades. He has now worked his way up to 11th in the drivers’ championship and has been consistently quicker than the Aston Martins and RBs he competes with. As Hulkenburg has scored points in six of the 12 race weekends, back the German to continue his great form with another points finish at $1.90 with top online bookmakers.
