F1 Canadian Grand Prix 2024 preview, predictions & betting tips
The 2024 F1 World Championship continues this weekend as we head to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.
With 70 laps scheduled around the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, expect plenty of opportunity for overtaking on what is a high-speed, low-downforce track.
Practice kicks off at 3:30am AEST on Saturday, June 8, while the race is scheduled for 4am on Monday, June 10.
Two weeks ago in Monaco, it was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who claimed victory in his home Grand Prix. In a race with minimal overtakes, the top 10 finished exactly how they started, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz rounding out the podium.
Despite finishing sixth around the Monte Carlo circuit, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen still leads the drivers’ championship with 169 points. But the margin is closing after both Leclerc (138) and McLaren’s Lando Norris (113) finished ahead of the Dutchman.
Canadian Grand Prix 2024 odds
Although he had a poor weekend in Monaco, there is no surprise that Verstappen is the clear favourite to win this race for a third consecutive year. However, in recent weeks the Red Bull has not looked untouchable, as Ferrari and McLaren have made substantial upgrades. Mercedes offer value for a top-six finish if anything goes wrong for the contenders, while Aston Martin’s struggles have opened the door for the rest of the pack to push for points.
- Max Verstappen (Red Bull) – -277.78
- Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) – +500
- Lando Norris (McLaren) – +650
- Oscar Piastri (McLaren) – +1400
- Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) – +2500
- Sergio Perez (Red Bull) – +4000
- Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) – +4000
- George Russell (Mercedes) – +5000

Canadian Grand Prix best bets
Sitting third in the drivers’ championship, Lando Norris has improved throughout the season and heads to Canada with four podiums from his last six starts. The British driver has made the most of the McLaren upgrades, which has made them the biggest challenger to Red Bull and Verstappen. With his overtaking ability and tyre-management skills, Norris offers great value for the win at $7.50 with Bet365.
Oscar Piastri has also lifted for McLaren, recording two top-four finishes in his last two outings — including his first podium of 2024 in Monaco. In his second season in F1, the young Australian has been the biggest improver on the grid. Having qualified in second for the last two races, another strong effort should put Piastri right in the mix for a podium finish at $2.40 with top F1 bookmakers.
Despite crashing out on the first lap in Monaco, it has been a fairly positive season for Haas driver Nico Hulkenburg. Sitting 13th in the standings, the German has scored in four of the eight races, while he has also secured 11th place on two other occasions. With other midfield cars such as Aston Martin, Williams and Alpine all suffering with problems of their own, back Hulkenburg to secure a points finish at $2.50 with online bookies.
Lando Norris to win
Oscar Piastri podium finish
Nico Hulkenburg points finish
