EURO 2024: England beat Netherlands 2-1 to reach final
England beat the Netherlands 2-1 in Dortmund on Thursday morning (AEST) to advance to the final of EURO 2024.
The Dutch quickly got off the mark, with Xavi Simons putting his side ahead in the seventh minute with a fine strike.
However, England found an equaliser 11 minutes later when Harry Kane scored a contentious penalty.
Although both sides had opportunities, with England’s Phil Foden and Denzel Dumfries of the Netherlands hitting the woodwork, the Three Lions would carry the day thanks to a last-minute winner by substitute Ollie Watkins.
With the win, Gareth Southgate’s side advanced to their second consecutive EURO final, and their first major final away from home.
England must now overcome a rampant Spanish side in Berlin on Monday morning if they are to end their 58-year wait for a major trophy.
On Wednesday, Spain booked their place in the final after beating France 2-1 in Munich.
Undoubtedly the form team of the tournament, online bookmakers are paying -147.06 outright odds for Spain to lift the trophy ahead of England (+120).
