Ethan Brown appeals careless riding ban

Ethan Brown
In-form apprentice Ethan Brown has appealed a nine-meeting careless riding suspension.

In-form apprentice Ethan Brown is free to ride at the midweek Sandown meeting pending an appeal against a careless riding suspension.

Brown was outed for nine meetings at Pakenham last Thursday and the ban was due to start after last Saturday’s Memsie Stakes meeting.

But the 18-year-old has appealed the decision and severity of the ban and has been granted a stay of proceedings until midnight on Wednesday with his hearing on Thursday.

Brown, who claims 3kg, has four rides at Sandown including the Anthony Freedman-trained Petition who is odds-on favourite for the Ladbrokes MultiMaker Handicap (1300m).

He is also booked to ride stakes winning colt Wait For No One, the Brendan McCarthy-trained Petite’s Reward and Grahame Begg-trained Dinner Lake who are all at single figure odds in early markets.

Brown has already ridden 11 winners in Victoria this season.

Seven of those have been metropolitan winners to put him equal second with Ben Melham in the Melbourne jockeys’ standings, one win behind Craig Williams.

He rode his first metropolitan treble at Sandown last Wednesday.

Four-year-old mare Petition, the winner of two of her seven starts, is first-up since May and Freedman is aiming the dual Listed placegetter towards the Group One Myer Classic this spring.

“She’s running Wednesday and all going to plan we’ll get her through to the Myer,” Freedman said.
