There is no bigger game in during the AFL home-and-away season than the yearly ANZAC Day matchup between the Essendon Bombers and Collingwood Magpies.
Even though the Dons and Pies are not playing their best footy to start the year, the MCG is primed for a massive crowd of passionate fans this Monday.
The Essendon Bombers have had the edge over the Pies in recent years, beating them twice in 2021 by comfortable margins and during their only clash of the 2020 season.
Craig McRae has got the Collingwood Magpies playing an aggressive and potent brand of footy, and the squad is about to regain some important players who will make their forward-line even more dangerous.
A trio of forwards in Brody Mihocek, Jack Ginnivan and Beau McCreery are all set to return this Monday, which is massive for the ballistic style McRae has implemented.
The inclusions for the Bombers are even more impressive, as Zach Merrett has made a very quick return from his ankle injury, while Jake Stringer is also making his way back into the side.
Merrett is an obvious superstar midfielder, while Stringer is as good as anyone on his best days, which the Dons will be hoping he can serve up to get their season back on track.
Key matchup: Jordan De Goey vs Darcy Parish
Looking back to last year’s ANZAC Day clash, Darcy Parish could not have played a better game. Parish set the record for most touches during the annual battle with 42 disposals, while he also kicked two goals, which saw him poll an obvious three Brownlow votes. Jordan De Goey has been phenomenal so far this season, averaging 23 disposals and two goals per game out of the centre.

The two midfielders will clash at most contests throughout the day, which should see them both rack up heaps of disposals. Both players are worth a look in the disposal betting markets, while they should also be heavily considered for the ANZAC Medal.
Essendon vs Collingwood betting tips
Collingwood Magpies 25+
Not only do we think the Magpies have the upper hand heading into this contest, we think they will get their revenge against Essendon in a big way. The 2021 season ended with a huge victory to the Bombers over the Pies, but early signs this year are very positive for Collingwood. Brodie Grundy has a massive advantage in the ruck against Sam Draper, which should help the Pies win the midfield battle and ultimately the game.
Collingwood Magpies 25+
Jordan De Goey to get 30+ disposals
Although Jordan De Goey has not registered 30 disposals in 2022, we know he is capable of hitting that mark after he did it four times at the back end of 2021. The powerful midfielder knows how to find the footy but has been forced to move forward regularly due to injuries up the ground. With three Collingwood forwards returning to the squad, De Goey should spend more time in the middle and get heaps of touches.

Darcy Moore to win the ANZAC Medal
We have gone with a smokey for the ANZAC Medal this year Collingwood backman Darcy Moore. With Jordan Roughead ruled out due to a finger injury, Moore will shoulder the heavy lifting against Peter Wright. If the son-of-a-gun can take a handful of intercept marks and keep Wright quiet, he will certainly be in the conversation.

The Pies will win big at the MCG this Monday after Jordan De Goey dominates in the middle and new-recruit forward Nathan Kreuger kicks his third pair of goals in as many games.
