Round 15: Essendon v West Coast preview
Essendon will be looking to strengthen their top-four position on the AFL ladder in round 15 when they host West Coast on Sunday afternoon at Marvel Stadium.
Playing at home, the Bombers are clear favourites at $1.15 with Unibet. The Eagles are outsiders at $5.75, while the line is set at 33.5 points.
Before their bye in round 14, Essendon fell to Carlton by 26 points in a blockbuster clash at the MCG. Despite leading the Blues in nearly every statistical category, they were unable to turn their dominance into goals.
After suffering consecutive losses, Brad Scott’s men have slid down to fourth on the ladder. With a tough run home, top AFL bookmakers have them at $3 to finish in the top four.
In good news for Bombers fans, Sam Draper, Mason Redman and Xavier Duursma have all been named to return from injury. Young midfielder Elijah Tsatas misses out, while rookie forward Nate Caddy is in the extended squad.
West Coast also had their bye last week, but in round 13, they lost to the previously winless North Melbourne by nine points. Kicking just 2.15 up to three-quarter-time, the Eagles left themselves too much to do and fell short despite a run of six straight goals in the final term.
It has been a reality check for the Eagles over the past month, as they have now lost their past three matches. Sitting in 16th on the ladder, they shouldn’t be favoured in many of their remaining games this season.
West Coast are also expected to have a few changes this week, headlined by the return of co-captain Oscar Allen for his first game of the season. Jayden Hunt and Tyler Brockman are also available, while Liam Duggan is expected to pass concussion protocols and hold his place.

Essendon v West Coast betting predictions
While the Eagles surprised many with their competitiveness earlier this season, their form away from Perth has been very poor. On the other hand, the Bombers are unbeaten in their four games at Marvel Stadium this year. Essendon won by six points back in round eight in Perth and should be far better in Melbourne, so back them to win by 40 or more at $2.20 with top Australian bookmakers.
Leading the Bombers with 28 goals this season, Kyle Langford continues to be a matchup nightmare. Despite being held goalless in his last two matches, the 27-year-old has kicked over three goals on seven occasions this season — including against the Eagles. With Essendon expected to win comfortably, back Langford to kick three or more goals at $2.35 with BoomBet.
With both Tim Kelly and Harley Reid missing for West Coast, the pressure falls onto veteran midfielder Elliot Yeo to put in a big performance. Although he has struggled with injuries in recent weeks, his form over the course of the season has been excellent. Coming off a week’s rest, expect Yeo to gather 25 or more disposals a $1.90 with top AFL betting sites.
