Round 19 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season begins this Friday night with Essendon searching for a steadying win against the Adelaide Crows at Marvel Stadium.

The Bombers enter this clash as $1.52 favourites with Unibet despite going down to Melbourne by 17 points in slippery conditions at the MCG last Saturday night. It was a close game for the first three quarters, but the margin blew out after the Dons conceded five straight goals early in the final term.

With two wins from their last six matches, Brad Scott’s men have dropped outside the top four and into sixth position. With their poor percentage, they are at risk of missing the top eight if they can’t turn their form around.

After getting through the Demons match unscathed, there should be no forced changes for Essendon this week. However, key defender Jayden Laverde and ruckman Todd Goldstein are sure to be in the mix after being named as emergencies in round 18.

It was a different story for Adelaide last Saturday, as they beat St Kilda by 32 points at home. In miserable conditions, the Crows’ defence was too strong, keeping the Saints to just five goals for the day.

Despite being out of finals contention, Matthew Nicks’ charges have been impressive over the last few weeks, winning two of their last three games. However, nearly all of their wins this year have come at Adelaide Oval, so it is no surprise that they are $2.60 outsiders at Bet365 for their trip to Melbourne.

With two goals in the final quarter against the Saints, expect key forward Riley Thilthorpe to make his way into the starting side after playing as the substitute. Also, half-back Mitch Hinge is a chance to return after missing last week with an adductor injury.
