EPL Matchweek 3 betting tips & value picks – August 20-21, 2022
Through the first two matchweeks of the 2022-23 Premier League season, it looks like it is Manchester City’s title to lose. They have looked borderline unstoppable and are one of two teams to have won their first two games. The other team is Arsenal, and while they look better than they have in past seasons, no one is confusing them for a true title contender. However, there is a lot of season left and it would be foolish to call the title race after two weeks. Every team will be playing this coming weekend, and we have some picks for the Saturday overnight games.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers
Son Heung-min is one of the best players in the Premier League but has yet to score a goal this season. At home against Wolves, Son should find his goalscoring boots and get back on the scoresheet. Last year, Son was the joint-top scorer across the whole Premier League, and he should once again be towards the top of the Golden Boot race. Wolves kept a clean sheet in their last game against Fulham, but they were susceptible defensively in Matchweek 1. Tottenham’s attack is substantially better than Fulham’s and they should create plenty of chances against Wolves’ defence. Expect Son to score.
Son Heung-min anytime goalscorer
Fulham vs Brentford
Both of these teams have started out their season with two good results. Brentford have four points through their first two games, including a 4-0 thrashing of Manchester United. Brentford have built on their successful 2021-22 season and have a good squad that will be a pain for anyone to play against. While they likely have more talent than Fulham, Brentford will be coming off an emotional win and may be in for a letdown game. The draw has a lot of value in this fixture.
Fulham have also started off their season in a strong way and they will be heading home for this game against Brentford. As Liverpool found out in Matchweek 1, Fulham at their home stadium are tough to beat, and that should remain consistent throughout the season. Brentford may not be ready for the hostility of the Fulham fans, and because of that, it should be a testy game. When that happens, it can become a slow game where both teams will be hesitant to take risks. In a matchup between two evenly matched squads, the draw has a lot of value at +230.
Draw
Bournemouth vs Arsenal
We backed Gabriel Jesus to score last week and he obliged with two goals in the first half. Arsenal have looked very good so far and their whole team is centred around Jesus. The Brazilian striker had plenty of goalscoring opportunities last weekend and he looks like a Golden Boot contender. Right now, the oddsmakers are still underrating Jesus, and as long as his odds stay in this range, he should be an auto-bet in every game. Bournemouth conceded four times in their last game against Man City, and while Arsenal are not at City’s level, they should be able to dismantle a porous Bournemouth defence. This should give Jesus a ton of chances, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he had another multi-goal game.
Gabriel Jesus anytime goalscorer
Leeds United vs Chelsea
Chelsea are coming off of an emotional draw against Tottenham in a game that featured the handshake heard around the world. Many will say the Blues were robbed of three points, and unfortunately for Leeds, the London club will be out for blood this week. Chelsea have a great team and they have looked defensively sound to this point. Their issue is currently their attack, but against Leeds’ defence, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. This line is very short, but Chelsea boast a substantially better team and should take care of Leeds.
Leeds have a strong attack but a bad defence. That plays right into Chelsea’s hands. It will be hard for Leeds to create chances in this game and it’s likely the Blues will only need one goal to walk away with a win. Chelsea should be able to easily break down Leeds’ defence, and then they can sit back and see the game out. Chelsea are a level above Leeds, and while the Peacocks are at home, it shouldn’t matter too much in this game. Take Chelsea and watch them dominate in the final game of Saturday’s slate.
Chelsea to win
