EPL Matchweek 3 best bets & top odds | Saturday, September 3
After an entertaining slate of midweek games, the Premier League returns this weekend. As things stand right now, Arsenal sit alone at the top of the table and are yet to drop any points. They have a game against Manchester United this weekend, however, and the other big clubs of England will be waiting to pounce if Arsenal were to drop points. It’s set up to be an interesting weekend and we have some picks to make it that much more entertaining.
Everton vs Liverpool
After a rough start to the season where Liverpool only garnered two points through three games, the Reds have won two straight. Curiously, throughout Liverpool’s resurgence, Mohamed Salah has struggled and he has had trouble finishing the ball. We do not expect that to continue and we still feel that Salah is one of the best players in the world. He has been unlucky in recent fixtures when it comes to actually scoring, but he is getting a lot of chances and his attacking intelligence is still elite. We expect Salah to end up on the goal sheet in this contest and is a bet.
Mohamed Salah to score
Newcastle United vs Crystal Palace
This is an interesting matchup between two midtable teams. Crystal Palace are in 13th place with five points through five games. Newcastle are in 12th place with six points through five games. At home, we think Newcastle have the edge as Crystal Palace have only one point through their first two away games. Outside of Wilfried Zaha, Palace lack creativity in their attack and Newcastle have the defensive acumen to lock him up. It’s going to be a tough, aggressive affair, but Newcastle can succeed in games like those and they are a good bet in this fixture.
Newcastle have had a very difficult start to the season but that is partially due to their schedule. Newcastle have a draw against Manchester City and were unlucky in a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool. In both of those games against elite competition, Newcastle played very well and they proved they are a level above last year’s team. Newcastle have a plethora of attacking options who should be able to break down the Palace defense and as long as Newcastle can handle Zaha, they should find a lot of success in this game. At home, Newcastle hold the value and they should grab a hard-fought win in this match-up.
Newcastle United to win
Tottenham vs Fulham
Simply put, Harry Kane’s goal scoring odds are way too long. He is one of the best strikers in the world and he has scored four goals in five games. Tottenham’s attack still runs through Kane and he is the centre piece of the Spurs’ gameplan. In a game where Tottenham should score at least three goals, Kane is a great bet to score one. Fulham have been surprisingly solid to start the season but Tottenham is a great team that will be hard for them to defend. Kane to score is a very safe bet and until his odds get significantly shorter, we will keep betting on Kane to bag a goal.
Harry Kane to score
Aston Villa vs Manchester City
While Arsenal are top of the table, Manchester City look like the team to beat. They already have a goal differential of +14 and that is five goals more than the next best team. City have been absolutely dominant in some fixtures and they have been blowing teams out. It may be risky to bet on an away team to win by at least two goals, but this City team is extremely capable of doing that. In each of City’s four wins this year, they have won by at least two goals and Villa is not a team that is capable of slowing them down. Take City to win and cover as they have a clear talent advantage over this Villa team.
Manchester City -1.5
