EPL: Leny Yoro joins Man United from Lille in £52m deal
Manchester United have completed the signing of French defender Leny Yoro for a fee of £52.18 million (A$100.7m).
The 18-year-old centre-back joins the Premier League club from Ligue 1 side Lille on a five-year contract, with the option of a 12-month extension.
Prior to completing his move to Old Trafford, Yoro had drawn the interest of top European clubs like Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool.
Yoro, who made his debut for Lille aged 16, made 32 league appearances last season, scoring two goals as his former side finished fourth in the French top division.
“Signing for a club with the stature and ambition of Manchester United so early in my career is an incredible honour,” he said.
“I know about the history of young players at Manchester United and feel it can be the perfect place to reach my potential and achieve my ambitions, together with my new team-mates. I cannot wait to get started.”
Despite finishing eighth in the EPL last season, United manager Erik ten Hag insists his main goal is to win the Premier League title.
Soccer betting sites are paying $26 for Manchester United to lift the EPL trophy next season.
