Epic win completes good week for Edmonds
Promising filly Boom Boom Epic ended a frustrating run of minor placings and completed a winning week for trainer Toby Edmonds with her victory at the Gold Coast.
In-form jockey Matt McGillivray took an inside run in the straight to steer the favourite Boom Boom Epic ($2.70) to a half-length win over All Too Huiying ($3.30) in the Aquis Ladies Day Handicap (1800m).
Edmonds won the Queensland Racing Media Association’s Personality of The Year Award and also got his handy three-year-olds Whypeeo and I Am Impinge back into the winners’ list in the past seven days.
He has high hopes for Boom Boom Epic who had run second at her three previous starts.
“She deserved that win because she has been so consistent,” Edmonds said.
“I am keen to get her into either the Australian Oaks or Queensland Oaks next year and the prize money today will be a big help.
Boom Boom Epic was bred and is raced by Lennox Head’s Dr Bob Watson who has had several good horses with Edmonds including the prolific winner Mr Epic.
McGillivray said he had been waiting for a break in the straight and it had eventually came.
“She is a promising filly and I think she will get even better,” he said.
Jockey Michael Walker said All Too Huiying had done a good job after being deep early and then attacked in the lead in the middle stages.
Trainer Gary Moore will press on to the Magic Millions Trophy (2200m) against older horses on January 13.
