If Souths win and nobody is around to see it…
South Sydney Rabbitohs kicked things off on Friday night with a resounding comeback win over Gold Coast Titans.
Star skipper Sam Burgess was a late out for the Bunnies, but Angus Crichton stepped up with a hat-trick to seal a dominant 32-20 result.

Sadly, there were very few Souths fans around to witness this rare triumph.
Television viewers could have been forgiven for thinking it was a reserve grade match, as ANZ Stadium was all but empty.

No doubt the NRL will blame the poor turnout on the split round of fixtures leading into Wednesday’s Origin clash.
Others have a different take on the situation.

Storm kids herald bright future for Melbourne
Many have wondered how Melbourne Storm will fare once the superstar trio of Cooper Cronk, Billy Slater and Cameron Smith have packed up and called it a day.
If Saturday’s golden-point win over North Queensland is anything to go by, there is much to look forward to at AAMI Park for years to come.

It was Brodie Croft who stole the show with a superbly taken field-goal to win it in the 84th minute.
It capped an impressive all-round display from a 19-year-old in only his second appearance in the firsts.

Croft has often been touted as something of a disciple to veteran Storm star Cronk, who is strongly tipped to leave Melbourne at season’s end.
It appears Craig Bellamy and company will not have to look far for a new number seven.

Sharks edge feisty Tigers to hold third
With Cronulla chasing back-to-back flags and Wests in serious contention for the wooden spoon, Saturday’s clash at Shark Park had a lopsided look from the get-go.
Few would have blamed Tigers fans for heading home or tuning out after the reserves result.
Nope, we didn’t make a typo.

Yet it was Wests who led at the break, and who continued to hold the advantage even after Edrick Lee pulled one back for the hosts in the 74th minute.
But then Jayson Bukuya broke through only four minutes later to complete a stunning comeback for the Sharks – much to the chagrin of the opposing camp.

But Wests fans were not alone in their post-match misery.
With Richmond suffering a similar fate in the AFL, it was a bad week for Tigers everywhere.

Dragons slip again in Parra horrorshow
Things were going so well for St George Illawarra.
Now, after two heavy defeats on the bounce, the rest of the competition is waiting for the bubble to burst at Kogarah.

Fresh off a big loss of their own, Parramatta took the lead three minutes in and never looked back.
While Eels fans may have enjoyed it, the game was not exactly a heart-starter for neutral observers.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the performance of Clint Gutherson, who finished with two tries and three conversions.
The dashing Eels fullback was the darling of social media on Sunday night, drawing love from all over the place.
