Electric Tribute downs odds-on favourite

The Matt Laurie-trained Electric Tribute has upset odds-on favourite Galaxy Raider , courtesy of a well-judged front-running ride by Dwayne Dunn at Flemington.

Electric Tribute ($10) went into Saturday’s Cafe Adamo Handicap (1600m) after a last-start win at Kilmore over 1450m and Dunn was able to control the race from the front and get away with cheap early sectionals.

Galaxy Raider, the $1.60 favourite, was third on the fence until straightening and once he got into the clear inside the 300m and wound up he wasn’t able to bridge the gap to Electric Tribute who ran the mile out strongly to win by a short neck.

“Dwayne looked to get away with a bit of murder there, and the horse travelled really strong and gave a really good kick,” Laurie said.

“I was a little bit concerned about the mile today because he just travelled so strong the other day at Kilmore and I just thought that maybe he might work too hard. But he just rated it beautifully.”

Electric Tribute is a younger half-brother to the Laurie-trained Master Reset who has won eight of his 22 starts while Electric Tribute has taken his record to four wins from 18 starts.

Electric Tribute began his career in NSW with David Pfieffer before joining Laurie’s team early this year.

“We’ve always liked him,” Laurie said.

“When he was sent down there was a bit of a rap on him. He just sort of lost his way but he’s certainly found it in his last two starts.”
