Eight more internationals Melbourne-bound

The final group of international contenders scheduled to contest spring carnival features are bound for Melbourne.

A group of eight horses, all nominated for the Melbourne Cup, departed London on Friday morning (AEDT) and are scheduled to arrive in Victoria on Saturday to begin two weeks of post-arrival quarantine at Werribee.

Among the horses are Irish Derby winner Latrobe who will attempt to give Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien back-to-back Melbourne Cup wins after his success with Rekindling a year ago.

Latrobe races in the colours of six-time Melbourne Cup-winning owner Lloyd Williams and the stayer is on the second line of Melbourne Cup betting at $13.

Magic Circle is also at $13 for the Melbourne Cup and is another of the horses set to arrive on Saturday.

Marmelo and Nakeeta are both making their second trip to Melbourne while the John Gosden-trained Muntahaa and three Aidan O’Brien-trained horses – Rostropovich, Idaho and The Pentagon – are also on the flight.

Northern Hemisphere three-year-old Rostropovich also holds a nomination for the Cox Plate on October 27, the day the eight are scheduled to finish their quarantine at Werribee.
