Round 18 preview: Parramatta Eels v South Sydney Rabbitohs

The South Sydney Rabbitohs will travel to Parramatta and take on the Eels at CommBank Stadium on Thursday night to kick off round 18 of the NRL Premiership.

Souths hosted Parramatta in round 12, recording a 16-point win at Accor Stadium. They’ve since gone on to win matches against the Sea Eagles and Broncos, lifting them from the bottom of the NRL ladder to 14th position.

Parramatta’s loss to the Rabbitohs six weeks ago followed the sacking of Brad Arthur as coach. The Eels have since gone on to lose three of their last four matches, pushing them into a battle with the Wests Tigers to avoid the wooden spoon.

Parramatta have dropped Maika Sivo, with Jake Tago named to make his NRL debut on the wing. Ryan Matterson will start in the second row, shifting Shaun Lane to lock and Joe Ofahengaue to the bench, where Charlie Guymer has also been named to make his first-grade debut.

The Rabbitohs will have representative stars Latrell Mitchell and Cameron Murray returning at fullback and the second row, respectively. Jye Gray and Liam Le Blanc drop to the reserves, while Michael Chee Kam will come off the bench.
