Eels lose Mitchell Moses for first six weeks of 2025 NRL season

Parramatta Eels NRL betting news

Mitchell Moses will miss the first six weeks of the 2025 NRL Premiership, with the Parramatta Eels revealing on Thursday that the star halfback had suffered a foot injury pre-season.

Rumours have been swirling this week surrounding the New South Wales playmaker’s fitness, and scans have now revealed the presence of stress fractures.

“Mitch has had a stress reaction in his left foot,” Eels CEO Mark O’Neill said in a statement.

“We have sought independent and expert medical opinions and following this advice Mitch will be in a boot for a few weeks and is expected to miss six weeks of football.”

Moses was sidelined for several months during the 2024 season courtesy of a foot fracture as well.

The news comes as a blow to the Eels after the veteran performed well pre-season, with fellow back Zac Lomax saying Moses was at peak fitness.

“He’s had a great pre-season and it’s the fittest I have seen him in a long time,” he said.

“He came in early compared to what he was required.

“He wanted to hit the ground running, he missed a heap of footy last year.

“He’s a massive loss for us. He’s our captain.

“But we’ve got a next man up mentality.

“For us it’s about putting in the best performance no matter who fills that spot.

“It’s been a bit of an ongoing thing, he had it last year.

“He’ll do everything to get right and be back on the field sooner rather than later.”

With Moses out, NRL betting sites have the Eels as heavy underdogs for their Round 1 clash with the Melbourne Storm on Sunday.

Marantelli Bet is paying $7 for Parramatta to upset this season’s title favourites, while Melbourne are priced at just $1.10 to begin their year with a win at home.

Title odds have not shifted at top Australian bookmakers with the news of Moses’ injury, however, with the Eels remaining at $23 to break their premiership drought.
