Eagle Farm set to race despite heavy rain

The Brisbane Racing Club is confident the Eagle Farm meeting will go ahead despite the course being drenched with nearly 200mm of rain in the past week.

Doomben on Thursday and the Sunshine Coast on Friday were both called off because of the wet Queensland weather.

Eagle Farm is especially designed to take heavy rain and had 89mm on Thursday on top of more than 100mm for the rest of the week.

The track was rated a soft (7) on Friday but is expected to improve if the weather eases.

BRC racing manager Bart Sinclair said there was no danger to the meeting and it would have been possible to race on a soft track if the meeting was on Friday.

“We will a go ahead on Saturday and the only danger would be a downpour during the meeting when visibility would become an issue,” he said.

Stewards will inspect the track on Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning.

The Sunshine Coast meeting has been rescheduled for Monday with the scratchings reinstated.
