Dylan Brown departs from Eels for the largest deal in NRL history

Parramatta Eels star Dylan Brown set to leave Eels

Parramatta Eels playmaker Dylan Brown has signed a 10-year, $13-million deal to join the Newcastle Knights from 2026 in what is the biggest-ever contract in NRL.

The 24-year-old announced the news via social media on Monday evening after weeks of rumours surrounding his potential exit from the club.

“Hello everyone, I have decided to take an opportunity that is best for me and my family.” Brown posted on Instagram.

“To the Blue and Gold family… nothing changes.”

“I’m locked in for this, and we have a job to do. Love.”

Brown was under contract with The Eels until 2031; however, opt-out clauses allowed him to shift clubs if he chose to do so before Round 10 this year.

Parramatta confirmed Brown’s departure in a statement of their own on Monday.

“The Parramatta Eels have confirmed that Dylan Brown will depart the club at the conclusion of the 2025 season,” the club said.

“Brown informed Eels staff and teammates of his decision earlier today.”

The Eels’ GM of Football, Mark O’Neill, also added a statement on the matter, confirming Brown’s commitment to the club and giving his blessing of sorts.

“Dylan has been offered what I understand to be the biggest deal in NRL history from 2026 onwards,” O’Neill said.

“Dylan is a class player. We understand his decision to take up the offer, and no one could begrudge him for accepting this opportunity for him and his family.

“Despite agreeing to terms with another NRL club for future seasons, Dylan remains committed to the Eels in 2025.

“We look forward to him playing his role in the team for the remainder of the year.”

Brown’s deal with the Knights is set to run through to the end of 2035 and exceeds the previously largest-ever deal in the competition, when Tino Fa’asuamaleaui joined the Gold Coast Titans for $12 million.

The pivot’s exit is another blow to the Eels, who already sit back in the market at top bookmakers to win the Premiership in 2025.

Leading bookmakers have Parramatta on the 11th line of betting to claim the title this year.
