Dusty Tycoon earns big ovation from owners

Two-year-old filly Dusty Tycoon returned to one of the biggest ovations heard at the Sunshine Coast when she scored a debut win.

Dusty Tycoon is raced by a Mirunners syndicate which has 1000 owners with several hundred of them on hand to watch the race.

The Mirunners syndicates are an idea of Racing Queensland which are designed to let the average punter have a share in a well-bred horse.

Trainer Robert Heathcote has Dusty Tycoon, who is by Written Tycoon, while Chris Munce has the other syndicate horse who is by Snitzel.

Dusty Tycoon ($6.50) gave Mirunners the perfect start to its life when she kicked clear in the straight to beat Way Beyond ($9.50) by 3/4 length with a length to All Good Millo ($7.50) in third place.

Heathcote said Dusty Tycoon when head to a Plate race in three weeks which would hopefully see her make the field for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) on January 11.

“It is great for racing. There are 1000 people in this horse and so many of them are here. The roar from the crowd was like a Group One win,” Heathcote said.

“I tried similar tactics with Dusty Tycoon as I did with my other good two-year-old Rothfire. I gave her an early trial and then another one at Deagon on Tuesday.

“I knew she was fit and although it was her first start I was confident she would do everything right.”

Jockey Dal Smith said Dusty Tycoon had been faultless in the run and he predicted she would be improved even further.

Trainer Stuart Kendrick can hardly wait for Way Beyond to get to distances further than 1000m.

“He is getting run off his feet in these shorter races but he can get home hard,” he said.
