Dreamforce rebounds with commanding win

With a familiar jockey in the saddle, Dreamforce has rediscovered the form he established as a gelding with a crushing win at Randwick.

Blaike McDougall rides the five-year-old’s track work as trainer John Thompson’s apprentice, and that insight was invaluable as Dreamforce bounced back from a disappointing last start on the same track a fortnight ago.

McDougall produced the perfect ride as Dreamforce led all the way to win the Book Summer Hospitality Today Mile (1600m) by 5-1/2 lengths.

Dreamforce, who was gelded before this preparation, notched his second victory fourth-up to make amends for overracing and finishing eighth over the same trip when Josh Adams rode him for the first time.

“He got a perfect ride today, we give the kid a 12 out of 10 for that ride,” Thompson said.

“He ambled cross, the kid’s got good hands, he rides him every day admittedly, he knows the horse well.

“This preparation he’s been very genuine, he just fired a little bit too much out of the barriers the other day.”

Hunter Jack ($6) followed the $2.20 favourite to the line while Liapari ($9) was a long neck back in third.

McDougall admitted he felt for his predecessor Adams.

“I don’t think it was Josh’s fault the other day. He didn’t know the horse, he gave him a dig in the guts and he overreacted,” he said.

“He jumps so well so I was always confident we’d have a nice enough lead. He’s a nice progressive horse on the way up.”
