Anzac Day is special on the NRL calendar as we not only remember the sacrifices made by service men and women past but emulate their mateship and bravery in our incredible sport. St George and Easts have a tradition of displaying exactly that as they clash again on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Dragons will be looking for two wins in a row following their victory over Newcastle, needing every bit of bravery they can muster to take on this Easts juggernaut and come out victorious. The Dragons have named an unchanged 17 for Sunday while the return of Paul Momirovski and Siosiua Taukeiaho strengthen this already stacked line-up.
While the Sydney Roosters have won their last two games against the Dragons by a combined total of 42 points, it’s surprising to see Easts have only won 24 of 45 matches with one draw between them. What is not surprising is to see that in almost every statistical category, the Roosters have the wood over the Dragons, except completion rates which are almost identical.
Despite the facts, given the dominance of Easts at the SCG in recent years, they’ve been incredibly heavily supported from $1.25 into $1.22. History suggest the Roosters win this clash by 13+ points on Sunday, and at $1.88 that’s an easy play to have with the online bookies.
Wet weather has been predicted for Sydney all weekend, and not only has it not quite set in yet, but the SCG drains incredibly well compared to regular NRL grounds. James Tedesco, Daniel Tupou, Joseph Manu, Joseph Suaalii and Sam Walker all have an incredible ability to score tries from anywhere on the park.
With the St George Dragons allowing on average 26 points a game to be scored against them and considering the 38.5 point line set with Sportsbet for total points, it’s easy to see that number eclipsed by this incredible Roosters attack.
Mathew Feagai will have his hands full Sunday as he marks up on one of the most underrated wingers in the NRL, Daniel Tupou. Tupou has 20 tackle breaks, five line breaks and one try assist to go with four tries already this season.
Feagai will have a circle around his name on the team sheet for the Roosters as the number one target for Daniel Tupou to target. He’s currently paying $4.10 with Bet365 to score 2+ tries which is incredible value given the ability Tupou possesses to score from anywhere on the park.
KEY MATCH UP: BEN HUNT V LUKE KEARY
This battle of the halfbacks will be more about the focus on their different strengths and weaknesses. Ben Hunt is a more typical game managing, kicking half, while Keary is a former five-eighth learning how to be a first receiver. All the attack of the Dragons flows through Ben Hunt, making them very predictable. The key to the Roosters is how Keary can manage the players around him, without disregarding his own game, playing to the strengths of his team mates. Should Keary do this well, the Roosters will be given opportunities to pile the points on the Dragons.
