Dragons v Warriors R7 match preview
Friday night NRL action kicks off in Wollongong with the St George Illawarra Dragons looking for their third win of the season as they host the in-form New Zealand Warriors at WIN Stadium.
The Dragons come into this match looking for their second win in a row following a victory over a much-improved Tigers outfit last Sunday in Campbelltown. The Warriors played out a thrilling 22-22 draw against the Sea Eagles in Auckland last week and will be seeking their fourth win in five games.
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has named Christian Tuipulotu to make his club debut, shifting Zac Lomax to the centres to cover the concussed Jack Bird. New recruit Fa’amanu Brown is named in the reserves.
Warriors coach Andrew Webster will be without middle forward Jazz Tevaga (hamstring), with Adam Pompey promoted to the bench as cover. However, Zyon Maiu’u has been named in the reserves and may be a late addition to the interchange to improve the side’s forward depth.
The Warriors have been well supported in the head-to-head markets with the top NRL bookmakers, coming in from as far as $1.54 into $1.44.

Dragons v Warriors betting predictions
The St George Illawarra Dragons are on the short turnaround, and they’ve lost eight of their last nine matches in this situation. The Warriors won their two matches against the Dragons in 2023, including a 30-point thrashing at WIN Stadium, and they have covered the line in each of their last five matches as favourites in Australia. Expect NZ’s winning form to continue as they cover the 5.5-point line at $1.90 with the best NRL betting sites.
Although 10 of the Dragons’ last 13 matches have finished below the total points line, they are a much better team in attack in 2024. At the same time, tryscoring for the Warriors this season has come easy with Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Marcelo Montoya and Jackson Ford all enjoying success in recent weeks. Look for the Warriors to produce another strong performance in attack, pushing the match total above 43.5 points ($1.90).
Shaun Johnson is another who has had tryscoring success for the New Zealand Warriors in recent weeks. Although recording just one line break and six tackle breaks in the last fortnight, the NZ halfback has scored three tries, with two of those coming in 72 minutes against the Rabbitohs. There is great value on offer for Johnson to score a try at any time during the match ($3.35).
