The St George Illawarra Dragons will have a fight on their hands when they host the Gold Coast Titans at WIN Stadium to kick off Sunday afternoon football in round 24 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.

The Dragons have won three of their last five matches; however, they’ve struggled to find consistent form, having not won back-to-back matches since beating the Bulldogs and Panthers in rounds 12 and 13. Sitting ninth on the NRL ladder, the Saints need to keep putting pressure on the teams above them to stay in the race for finals.

The Titans’ inconsistency has been on full display in recent weeks, as they followed up derby wins over the Dolphins and Broncos with a 44-point hammering at the hands of the Sharks. Gold Coast’s poor start to the season is starting to catch up with them, and they will need to win every match from here to have any hope of playing finals football.

Brian Kelly (illness) returns at centre for the Titans, with AJ Brimson named on the interchange. Jaimin Jolliffe replaces Moeaki Fotuaika (suspension) in the front row, with Keenan Palasia promoted to the bench and Tony Francis dropped to the reserves. Beau Fermor (illness) has been named in the reserves and could be a late inclusion.

Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has also made changes to his side, with Hame Sele (chest) and Mosese Suli (knee) ruled out. Mathew Feagai replaces Suli in the centres, while Jack Bird comes onto the bench. Raymond Faitala-Mariner drops to the reserves in favour of Toby Couchman.

While the Dragons are $1.55 favourites to win at home, history suggests they are not the best bet. The underdog has won four of the last five matches between these teams, while the favourite has failed to cover the line in 16 of Gold Coast’s last 17 matches. St George Illawarra second-rower Jaydn Su’A is enjoying one of the best seasons in his career, scoring eight tries in 18 games. As a kicking target and a ball-carrier, the Queensland forward is often a focal points of the Dragons’ attack, so look for Su’A to add to his try tally at $2.30 with Unibet.

Both of these sides are littered with stars capable of scoring points from anywhere on the field. For the Dragons, three of their last five matches have had more than 50 points scored, while the Titans’ last win had more than 60 on the board.
