Dolphins v Broncos match preview

With the Redcliffe Dolphins and Brisbane Broncos both fighting for an NRL finals position the Battle of Brisbane is set to be a must watch event from Suncorp Stadium on Saturday.

The Broncos (-238.1) have been installed favourites for this round 26 clash, with the Dolphins (+190) outsiders against a team that has underachieved but bounced back to form in recent weeks.

Brisbane appear to have turned a new leaf in their season as they aim to play finals football again after beating the Cowboys and Eels comfortably in their last two matches. Coach Kevin Walters and the club are determined they will play finals football, but they need to beat the Dolphins to do so.

The Dolphins, on the other hand, have hit a massive speed bump in their season, losing four of their last five matches. With injuries in their side stacking up, they will be hoping the Broncos poor form from a month ago resurfaces in order to secure a much-needed win here.

The Broncos will be without bench forward Kobe Hetherington (concussion), with Benjamin Te Kura named on the bench as his replacement. There could be one other change late in the piece if Payne Haas fully recovers from an ankle injury and returns to the side before kick off.

Meanwhile, Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett will be without Jesse Bromwich and Kodi Nikorima (concussion), while Josh Kerr has been dropped. Sean O’Sullivan will start in the halves with Mark Nicholls captaining in the front row alongside Kenneath Bromwich. Ray Stone will lock the scrum.

Mason Teague, Tesi Niu and Kurt Donoghue have been added to the interchange bench, while Tevita Pangai Junior and Jeremy Marshall-King could be late inclusions from the reserves.

It has been one-way traffic in Brisbane v Dolphins betting markets since opening, with the Broncos being backed into -263.16 from from as long as -188.68.

Dolphins v Broncos betting tips & strategy

In their three encounters, the Dolphins have failed to beat the Broncos, and two of those Broncos wins came by 12 points or less. The Dolphins have lost each of their last six matches when playing with a rest disadvantage and, with the Broncos naming a much stronger lineup, they will be expected to win by 13 points or more at +140 with NRL bookmakers.

Broncos’ centre Kotoni Staggs made his mark on the Battle of Brisbane in the first clash between these two clubs when he ran the length of the field to score and declared Suncorp was the Broncos “home”. He’s scored at least one try in each of Brisbane’s last three matches at this ground, and at +120 is a safe bet to score again.

Point scoring for the Broncos in recent weeks has been easy for them, with the last four games finishing over the total points line. However, there has never been more than 50 points scored in a game between these two clubs. Expect a defence-first attitude from both sides and less than 51 points scored in this match (-111.11).
