Djokovic, Alcaraz drawn to meet in Madrid Open semi-finals

ATP Tour tennis news

Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz are in the same half of the 2025 Madrid Open draw, with the two former champions seeded to meet in the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event beginning on Wednesday, April 23.

Djokovic arrives in Madrid off the back of a first-round defeat at the Monte-Carlo Masters but is still second-favourite to win the tournament at $8.50 across tennis betting sites.

He takes on either Matteo Arnaldi or a qualifier in his opening match, with clay-court specialist Sebastian Baez potentially waiting in the third round.

The fourth seed could face Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16 and fifth seed Jack Draper in the quarter-finals before clashing with Alcaraz in the last four.

Alcaraz, meanwhile, is a heavy favourite to win the Madrid Open, having claimed the title in Monte-Carlo and made the final of the Barcelona Open.

Bet365 prices him at $3.20 to win his second clay Masters of the season, with the Spaniard seeded No.2 at the event.

He opens against either Zizou Bergs or Yoshihito Nishioka and is likely to take on past semi-finalist Jiri Lehecka in the third round.

Advance and he is seeded to meet world No.16 Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16 before a potential quarter-final against Australia’s Alex de Minaur.

In the top half of the draw, recent Munich Open champion Alexander Zverev has some familiar foes waiting in his quarter.

Should he make the fourth round, he will square off against Arthur Fils for the fifth time in the last 10 months.

The pair have split their recent meetings two apiece, with Fils prevailing in their most recent clash at the Miami Open last month.

Should Zverev exact his revenge, then his quarter-final could be against either Ben Shelton — who he beat in the Munich final — or Andrey Rublev, the defending champion.

Casper Ruud, Taylor Fritz and Holger Rune are the leading contenders to make the last four from the lower quarter of Zverev’s half, with the trio priced between $19 and $23 to win the tournament by top bookmakers.

Zverev himself holds the third line of title betting at $11 with PlayUp.
