Dixie Preacher lands big betting move
Dixie Preacher justified a betting plunge with a dominant victory at Doomben.
Tough gelding Dixie Preacher has landed a betting plunge to further cement the relationship between Melbourne owner/breeder Brian Toohey and Brisbane trainer Chris Anderson.
Dixie Preacher was backed from $11 to $4.20 before scoring a dominant win under Ryan Wiggins in the G H Mumm Handicap (2020m) at Doomben on Saturday.
Toohey is the head of Winton Bloodstock and has had considerable success in recent years.
He sent two horses north to Anderson and the other, Star Silk, won at Doomben two weeks ago.
“These southern horses find their niche up here and can win a few races. Dixie Preacher has got out to the right distance and there are a couple more races for him in coming weeks,” Anderson said.
“Hopefully Brian can send a few more our way.”
The favourite Red Stina ($2.40) raced mid field and ran on solidly to finish 1-1/4 lengths second without ever looking the winner.
