Date set for James McDonald appeal
Jockey James McDonald’s appeal against his 18-month ban for a betting offence will be heard in March.
The former retained rider for Godolphin in Australia, McDonald has not ridden since November 15 when he stood down after being questioned by stewards over his involvement in a bet on Astern in December 2015.
McDonald was subsequently disqualified at a stewards’ inquiry on December 5 and lost his contract with Godolphin.
His hearing is on March 13.
Racing NSW stewards are still to interview punter Anthony Gardiner who they believe played a pivotal role in McDonald’s winning bet on Astern when he made his debut, netting the jockey $4000.
Stewards also warned McDonald of his association with Gardiner before the betting came to light.
