Beneil Dariush (22-5-1) was enjoying an eight-fight win streak when he collided with Charles Oliveira in June, which resulted in a brutal first-round TKO loss for the Iranian-American. While there is no shame in losing to one of the greatest MMA lightweights of all time, Dariush has been shuffled down the contender pile after nearing a shot at the title.
The 34-year-old must now reset, and we will get a glimpse of his character in Austin. Dariush is a well-rounded athlete with a mixture of knockout, submission and decision victories across his lengthy MMA career. He has never lost a fight via points, as solid movement, pressure and octagon activity hold him in good stead with the judges.
Arman Tsarukyan (20-3-0) has amassed a 7-1 record since 2019, with the sole loss coming to the impressive Mateusz Gamrot. The Armenian-Russian is also a volume striker, with seven professional wins coming via decision, but packs a little more power than his opponent. At 27 years of age, Tsarukyan should be coming into his prime and might prove more durable than the older Dariush.
Tsarukyan boasts a solid tank, which should serve him well in what promises to be an all-action affair. The younger man is the short-priced favourite with the best UFC bookmakers, as pundits expect youth and confidence to carry him to victory. A win will push Tsarukyan into the top five in the 155-pound division and have him knocking on the door for a shot at the reigning champ, Islam Makhachev.
Dariush vs Tsarukyan betting predictions
UFC betting markets may have overreacted to Dariush’s recent loss. If you can forgive him for one bad performance, he appears well over the odds. The concern is the swift nature of the defeat to Oliveira and his ability to overcome the TKO.
Tsarukyan certainly has more upside, but there is little appeal in backing him at the skinny odds. The big question is whether the contest will last the distance. We are backing the favourite to land a heavy shot and claim another stoppage win.
