Round 20: North Queensland Cowboys v Canterbury Bulldogs match preview

Round 20 of the NRL Premiership wraps up in Townsville on Sunday with the brilliant Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs taking on the Cowboys at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The Cowboys‘ last outing was a loss to the Sea Eagles at this ground, with Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans kicking a field goal to win the match. North Queensland had won three of their four previous matches, and another win here could elevate them into the top eight on the NRL ladder.

The Bulldogs, on the other hand, beat the Warriors thanks to a Matt Burton field goal to make it four wins in their last five games. Incredibly, a win here could put Canterbury in third place on the ladder.

Bulldogs coach Cameron Ciraldo has named captain Stephen Crichton to back up from Wednesday’s State of Origin clash. Max King (wrist) and Jaeman Salmon (jaw) have been ruled out through injury.

Josh Curran has been named to start in the front row, Jacob Preston lines up in the second row, and Kurt Mann steps in at lock. Bailey Hayward moves back to the bench, where Poasa Faamausili has been named to return.

Cowboys forward Reuben Cotter has confirmed that he and his fellow Queenslanders Valentine Holmes, Tom Dearden and Jeremiah Nanai will back up from Origin III. Coach Todd Payten has named all of his representative players in the reserves and is yet to confirm his final starting line-up.

Cowboys v Bulldogs R20 betting predictions

The Cowboys have won three of their last five clashes with the Bulldogs, and the home team has won 16 of Canterbury’s last 17 matches. At their home ground with the biggest possible break from Wednesday night’s Origin battle, the Cowboys should be good enough to win as -136.99 favourites with top NRL bookmakers.

Kyle Feldt, the Cowboys’ leading tryscorer, has crossed the stripe in each of his last three appearances. Coming up against the much less experienced Blake Wilson, the 32-year-old looks a near-certainty to score a try at $1.62 with Neds.

Viliame Kikau will likely be one of the Bulldogs’ go-to players in attack. The star second-rower is a much bigger, more physical player than either Heilum Luki or Jeremiah Nanai, and he has scored a try in each of his last two matches.
