The North Queensland Cowboys will continue their charge towards the finals when they host a battered and bruised Brisbane Broncos side this Saturday in round 23 of the 2024 NRL Premiership.

Brisbane are having a wretched run with injury, which has led to them dropping to 14th on the NRL ladder. While they still have a mathematical chance of making the top eight, the Broncos cannot afford any more losses and will need other results to fall in their favour.

On the other hand, the Cowboys sit in sixth position after thumping the Tigers at Leichhardt Oval last weekend. A big win here could elevate them all the way to third on the ladder, which would be an enormous boost for their premiership chances.

Broncos coach Kevin Walters will be without star players Ezra Mam (ankle) and Payne Haas (foot), while Corey Oates has been dropped from the starting side. Josiah Karapani returns on the wing, Josh Rogers has been named to start at five-eighth, Xavier Willison lines up in the front row, and Tristan Sailor joins the bench.

Cowboys coach Todd Payten welcomes back star forward Reuben Cotter from concussion to start at lock, pushing Harrison Edwards back to the interchange. Jake Granville is out with a pectoral injury in an otherwise unchanged line-up.

Cowboys v Broncos betting strategy

The Broncos have lost eight of their last nine matches, including four defeats to top-eight sides. At the same time, the Cowboys have won six of their last eight matches, and four of those wins have come against top-eight teams. With superior form and home-ground advantage, the Cowboys should easily secure a win by 13 points or more at $2.40 odds with top NRL bookmakers.

With the Cowboys retiring the No.12 jersey this week in honour of Carl Webb, Jeremiah Nanai will line up in the second row with the No.24 on his back. With emotions running high, we can expect a big performance from the Queensland star.
