Can Collingwood set aside all their controversies this Sunday at the MCG, or will the GWS Giants take advantage of the Magpies’ week and register an upset in round 15 of the 2022 AFL season?
Jordan De Goey has been the name on everyone’s lips after his shenanigans in Bali over the bye weekend, leading to him missing this weekend’s action while he takes personal time away from the club.
Among all the De Goey uproar, Isaac Quaynor and Jack Ginnivan have found themselves in a scandal of their own, which could disrupt the team’s momentum heading into Sunday.
The GWS Giants will hope to capitalise on the recent disruptions and steal another victory against the Pies, who they have beaten four consecutive times since their 2018 semi-final clash.
De Goey is the only change from Collingwood’s starting 22 at this point, while Brayden Preuss, Zach Sproule, Ryan Angwin and James Peatling are all out for the Giants.
Tim Taranto makes a big return for GWS this week, while Phil Davis, Daniel Lloyd and Xavier O’Halloran also find their way back into the side.
Key matchup: Jamie Elliott vs Toby Greene
Jamie Elliott and Toby Greene are two genuine match-winners that each were instrumental last time they took to the field. Greene kicked a career-high seven goals against the Bulldogs, while Elliott booted three in a Queen’s Birthday masterclass.
Both players have slightly changed their role as the years have passed, with Elliott spending more time up the ground and Greene anchoring himself deep inside forward 50. We think both are going to be dangerous in front of the goals this week, especially Elliott upon the loss of Jordan De Goey.
Collingwood vs GWS line betting tips
The Pies have won their last four matches on the trot, which is the equal-longest active winning streak in the AFL. Although we think the Giants are on the up under Mark McVeigh, they will not end Collingwood’s streak this Sunday. The Pies will rally the troops this weekend and steady the ship, as their back six are as good as anyone’s.
Collingwood -12.5
Jamie Elliott goalkicker betting odds
Just as we mentioned earlier in the piece, we think Jamie Elliott is in for a big game against the Giants at the MCG. Elliott may not have the best record against the Giants in recent years, but he will be a hard matchup for the current GWS squad. Adam Kennedy may go with Elliott at ground level, but he does not have the same skills when it comes to aerial contests.
Jamie Elliott 2+ goals
Collingwood vs GWS same-game multi picks
Expect the Magpies to register a strong win this Sunday in a shootout against the Giants, as Jamie Elliott will star up forward and Nick Daicos will rack up the disposals across half-back.
Collingwood -12.5 / Elliott 2+ goals / N. Daicos 25+ disposals / Over 165.5 pts
