Round 12: Collingwood v Western Bulldogs match preview
Collingwood will be looking to extend their eight-match unbeaten streak this Friday night at Marvel Stadium as they host the Western Bulldogs in round 12 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season.
The Magpies enter this match as favourites at $1.78 with Bet365, while the Bulldogs are slight underdogs at $2.12 with BoomBet. The handicap is set at just 3.5 points, as top AFL bookmakers are expecting a close match.
Last Friday, Collingwood had their second draw of the season as they finished 75-75 against Fremantle at Optus Stadium. In a back-and-forth game, the Magpies were 25 points up with seven minutes remaining and looked home. But they conceded the last four goals in quick succession, surrendering two points on the ladder.
As a result of the draw, Collingwood have dropped to seventh place as one of five teams tied on 28 points. However, top online bookmakers aren’t concerned with the reigning premiers, who are paying $2.50 to make the top four and $7.50 to win the premiership.
The Magpies’ personnel issues have gone from bad to worse, as Mason Cox (knee), Joe Richards (foot) and Brody Mihocek (hamstring) were all injured against the Dockers. Jeremy Howe, Jack Bytel and Reef McInnes are all a chance to return for Friday night.
The Bulldogs suffered their sixth defeat of the season last Thursday as they fell to the league-leading Sydney Swans by 14 points at Marvel Stadium. Although they were leading at half-time, inaccuracy ultimately cost Luke Beveridge’s men as they conceded nine goals to five in the second half.
Despite the loss, there are plenty of positives for the Bulldogs, who hold the second-best percentage in the AFL despite sitting two games outside the top eight. At $3.50 with AFL betting sites, they offer good value to make the top eight.
There were also plenty of injuries for the Dogs in round 11, as Aaron Naughton (knee), Ed Richards (concussion) and Anthony Scott (concussion) all went down. Key forward Rory Lobb should return after a strong spell in the VFL, while James O’Donnell is expected back after he was a late out against the Swans.

Magpies v Bulldogs R12 betting predictions
Heavily depleted, particularly in their forward half, the Magpies may struggle to match the firepower of the Dogs at the other end. With a strong performance against the Swans and wins against GWS and Richmond in the past three weeks, the Bulldogs are primed for an upset in this blockbuster clash. At risk of falling three games behind the top eight, back the Doggies at $2.12 with BoomBet.
Averaging better than 37 disposals per game over the last three weeks, Collingwood star Nick Daicos has been a major reason behind the Magpies’ good form. In the absence of Jordan De Goey and Tom Mitchell, the 21-year-old has enjoyed an increase in midfield time while becoming one of the favourites in Brownlow Medal betting. Back Daicos to collect 35 or more disposals at $2.90 with top Australian bookies.
Bulldogs midfielder Adam Treloar has had an excellent start to the 2024 season and leads the AFL for disposals, averaging 32.5 per game. He attends more centre bounces than any other Bulldog, and his lowest possession count in a game this year is 27. Facing his old side, expect Treloar to continue his stellar run by gathering 35 or more disposals at $3.50 with online betting sites.
