Magpies v Blues R21 match preview
Collingwood hero Scott Pendlebury will play his 400th AFL game as the Pies take on old foes Carlton at the MCG this Saturday night.
The Blues enter as $1.50 favourites with online bookies, even after losing to Port Adelaide by 14 points at Marvel Stadium last Friday night. Despite leading for a majority of the game, the Baggers faded late and conceded the last six goals in a worrying display.
Michael Voss’ men have lost three of their last four matches to drop down to fourth on the ladder. Meanwhile, their odds to win the premiership have gone out to $7.50 with leading AFL bookmakers.
Expect Carlton forward Harry McKay to come straight back in after missing last week due to illness. Wingman Blake Acres is also set to return, with late inclusion Lewis Young and David Cunningham (shoulder) the likely changes.
Collingwood broke a four-match losing streak last Sunday, beating Richmond by 26 points at the MCG. After taking a 24-point lead into quarter-time, the Pies never looked back. Brothers Nick (42 disposals) and Josh Daicos (32 disposals) led the way, while key forward Dan McStay kicked three goals.
Despite the victory, the reigning premiers remain 12th on the ladder and come into this clash as $2.65 underdogs with top Australian bookies. Sitting a game and percentage outside the top eight, they are also $21 longshots to make the finals.
Pies coach Craig McRae will have some tough choices at selection this week, as Nathan Kreuger (concussion), Oleg Markov (personal reasons) and Joe Richards (illness) should all be available to return. Star midfielder Jordan De Goey looks set to miss another week with a groin injury.

Collingwood v Carlton predictions
Although Collingwood won last week, their recent form has been incredibly poor. This is a must-win clash for Carlton, who have a top-four spot on the line and need to carry some form into September. At $1.91 with top online bookmakers, back the Blues to cover the line of 12.5 points.
In such an important clash, expect Carlton captain Patrick Cripps to continue his stellar form. The Brownlow Medal favourite is averaging 28.5 disposals per game this season and has collected over 30 on seven occasions. At $1.90 with AFL betting sites, Cripps offers great value to hit that mark once again.
The AFL leader for disposals, Collingwood’s Nick Daicos is having another terrific season. After his 42-disposal effort last Sunday, the 21-year-old has collected over 35 on five occasions this year. Daicos had 32 touches and two goals when these teams last met, so back him for 35 or more disposals at $3.25 with top AFL bookies.
