Collateral milestone for Tye Angland

Surprise packet Collateral has delivered his fourth win for the Bjorn Baker stable and brought up an important milestone for his jockey Tye Angland at Randwick.

The former Queenslander’s victory in the Ron Finemore Handicap (2400m) gave Angland his 100th winner for the season and his 800th in a career, which has included a successful stint in Hong Kong.

“It’s great. It’s 100 and 800 for my career,” Angland said.

Formerly trained in Queensland, Collateral has been with Baker for one preparation consisting so far of six starts, which have realised two-thirds and four wins in succession.

“He has thrived in Sydney. He’s a surprise packet and just keeps winning,” stable representative Jack Bruce said.

“Bjorn raises the bar and he does us all proud.”

Collateral, the $2.40 favourite, handled the step up from 1800m to 2400m and the seven-day back-up with no issues, although Angland admitted he laced a turn of foot.

“When I got him off the bridle he didn’t zip away like I thought he would but to his credit he fought deep,” Angland said.

“Having to back up on a heavy track might have played that part in him not shooting away.

“The key with him is he was able to roll into them and get a length off them without getting off the bridle.

“He could go further but I wouldn’t want to test it too early. He’s a horse that will keep stepping up in grade because he’s just winning.”

Epsom Hill ($7) took the lead turning for home but Collateral wore away in the straight to beat him by three-quarters of a length.

Northern Journey ran an even race to hold third, a short neck from the runner-up.
