Chris Waller to continue Qld winning roll

Champion trainer Chris Waller’s ravaging of winter carnival records is set to continue at Ipswich.

Sydney’s premier trainer will have Tumultuous and My Giuliano (Ipswich Cup) and Religify and Tougherthantherest (Eye Liner Stakes) in the Listed feature races.

He had entered Dagny for the Ipswich Cup but decided the mare would be better placed in a race at Rosehill.

Waller won the Ipswich Cup with Danchai in 2015.

A treble at the Stradbroke meeting last Saturday lifted Waller to eight feature race wins in the five main days of the carnival.

It eclipsed the six feature wins recorded by Tommy Smith in 1970.

Waller has had 12 overall winners since the carnival started in early April and has the chance at Ipswich to bring up a dozen feature wins.

Waller’s Queensland manager Paul Shailer has taken a short break after the main carnival but was at track work this week to give a final thumbs-up for the team.

“Things have worked out well this winter and we have the right horses for the Ipswich races on Saturday,” he said.

Waller’s winter wins:

Group One: Doomben Cup (Comin’ Through), Queensland Oaks (Youngstar), J J Atkins (The Autumn Sun)

Group Two: BRC Sires’ Produce (The Lean Machine), P J O’Shea Stakes (Egg Tart), Queensland Guineas (Sambro), Dane Ripper (Invincibella), Champagne Classic (Zousain), The Roses (Youngstar)

Listed: Princess Stakes (Improvise)

Other: Xebec (Doomben open handicap), Another Dollar (Toowoomba benchmark).
