Champions Trophy 2025 final preview: India vs New Zealand
The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy comes to a close as India face New Zealand in Dubai this Sunday night (AEDT), and top cricket betting sites have installed a clear favourite for the final.
India are the world’s No.1 ODI team, and it has been apparent throughout the tournament. They completed a perfect group stage with wins over Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand before facing off against Australia in the semi-finals on Tuesday night.
Bowling first, India restricted the Aussies to just 264 before chasing down the total with four wickets and 11 balls to spare.
Virat Kohli leads the side in runs for the tournament with 217, while Shreyas Iyer (195) and Shubman Gill (157) have also been strong contributors. It has been a well-rounded effort with the ball, with pace bowler Mohammed Shami taking eight wickets and spinner Varun Chakravarthy bagging seven.
India have been favourites for this tournament since the start, so it is no surprise to see them enter the final at short odds of $1.40 with Australian bookmakers.
New Zealand’s road to the final involved finishing second in Group A, with wins over Pakistan and Bangladesh. They followed that up with an impressive performance in the semi-finals on Wednesday night, beating an in-form South African side by 50 runs.
Led by twin hundreds from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson, the Black Caps powered to a mammoth 362 — the highest total in Champions Trophy history. With the ball, spin did the damage, taking seven of the nine wickets, as they comfortably defended the score.
After losing to India earlier in the tournament, it is no surprise to see New Zealand coming in as underdogs. Anything can happen in a final, however, and the Kiwis offer great value for the upset at $3 with Neds.
India vs New Zealand team news
Playing in Dubai once again, expect the Indian side to remain unchanged. They have a wealth of experience with the bat, while their quartet of spinners is set to trouble the New Zealand side.
Projected India XI: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy.

Similarly, New Zealand are set to remain unchanged for this clash. Their batting lineup looks set, with Devon Conway likely to miss out as Daryl Mitchell’s offspin may come in handy. Meanwhile, expect them to stick with three spinners and three pace bowlers.
Projected New Zealand XI: Rachin Ravindra, Will Young, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Tom Latham (wk), Glenn Phillips, Michael Bracewell, Mitchell Santner (c), Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Will O’Rourke.
India vs New Zealand betting predictions
While it may seem like the obvious selection at -250 with BetOnline, there is no doubt that India have been the best team of the 2025 Champions Trophy. They have played the whole tournament in Dubai and have a team that suits the spin-friendly conditions. Last time these sides met, the Black Caps couldn’t handle Indian attack, and it is hard to see them turning it around for this occasion.
Coming into the side for the last two games, leg-spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been a standout player for India. Able to spin it both ways, the 33-year-old is strong through the middle overs and very dangerous against the tail. Last time he faced New Zealand, Chakravarthy took five wickets, so back him to have another strong game with three or more scalps at $3.40 with Marantelli Bet.
If New Zealand are going to make this a contest, Kane Williamson may have to play a major role. The Black Caps’ first drop has scored 102 and 81 in his last two innings, playing the anchor role as others hit around him. Known for being a strong player of spin, back Williamson to continue his good form with 50 or more runs at $2.75 with Marantelli Bet.
