Chael Sonnen says “no truth” to rumours of McGregor v Paul fight

Conor McGregor news
UFC veteran Chael Sonnen has dismissed talk of a fight between Conor McGregor and Logan Paul taking place in India, saying on Friday that there is “no truth” to the rumours.

McGregor was expected to make this return to the UFC in 2025, but instead dropped a bombshell last month, revealing he is in discussions with Paul and the Ambani family about a $250 million fight in Mumbai instead.

But Sonnen believes that no billionaire would be interested in paying such a sum to the Irishman.

“You’ve got to understand Conor is not boxing Paul,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel.

“He is claiming that he is going to get $250 million to go box Logan Paul in India for a billionaire investor who wants to bring attention and tourism to India.

“There is not a billionaire in India looking to bring people over and change tourism.”

The American’s argument hinges on the precedent set by Saudi Arabia, which is that government’s drive such initiatives, not individuals.

“That is something exclusively done by a government,” he said.

“That government has done it in one place and that’s Saudi Arabia in the Middle East.

“There is no check for $250 million.

“He kind of went right down a list of joking. He’s kidding.

“You’re not supposed to believe any of that to be true.”

Despite Sonnen’s stance, some top sportsbooks are already offering early boxing odds for the match up.

Most boxing betting sites have Paul as the favourite to win, with the American sitting around $1.67, while McGregor trails at $2.20 with the top online bookmakers.

Another obstacle that Sonnen pointed that may prevent the fight happening, however, is the contractual obligations of each fighter.

McGregor is currently under contract with the UFC, while Paul has long-lasting ties to the WWE.

“If there was somebody handing out $250 million checks, he’s not going to an Irishman under contract with the UFC, an American under contract with the WWE, bring them to India and walk around known as ‘rich India dude’,” he said.

“There’s no truth.

“There’s no India new boxing league.

“There’s no Conor and Paul.

“There’s no $250 million.

“There was no part of the story that was true.”
