Central Coast Mariners secure A-League Grand Final berth
Central Coast Mariners have secured their spot in the A-League final after a hard-fought draw over Sydney FC in the semi-finals game 2.
The upcoming championship showdown at Industree Group Stadium in Gosford will see the Mariners face off against Melbourne Victory, with the top online bookmakers siding with the Mariners.
Despite a battle that saw four yellow cards in the first half, the Central Coast Mariners solid defence led by captain Danny Vukovic held strong to secure their 2-1 aggregate win.
The match was not without controversy, as VAR intervention disallowed Sydney FC’s goal due to an offside call on Fabio Gomes.
Sydney FC coach Ufuk Talay seemed disappointed, with the officiating implying that the game result may have been swayed more by the referee’s decisions than the players efforts.
On the other hand, the Mariners celebrated their hard-earned win, with Vukovic recognising the team’s determination to maintain a clean record and secure their spot in the grand final.
The Mariners have only one more obstacle in their path to claim back-to-back A-League championships.
As the $2.05 favourites gear up to take on Melbourne Victory in the final, anticipation builds for a clash that will determine this season’s A-League champion.
