Cassidy tests knees with seven rides

Multiple Group One winning jockey Larry Cassidy believes he will know exactly how his comeback is going after he tests himself with seven rides at Eagle Farm.

Cassidy was sidelined for more than a year with recurring knee problems which needed surgery.

He has worked hard to come back and after a low key start to his return in August has been in great form in recent weeks.

He scored his eighth winner in the past month when Backslapper and Pinch Mountain gave him a double at Doomben on Wednesday.

“The trainers have been very good to me and I am getting rides from a lot of different stables,” Cassidy said.

“I have been working hard on my weight and have been getting down to 54 kilos on Saturdays. I rode three at 54 last Saturday and it was a test to get down there,” Cassidy said.

“There is a difference between riding 54 kilos and riding it strong. But I am getting there.”

Cassidy has three more mounts on the minimum 54kg on Saturday and believes it will be his major test.

“Seven rides at this stage and three on the minimum. I will see how I feel Sunday and that should be a good guide to my comeback success,” he said.
