Can Carlton bounce back to winning form against North Melbourne in their round seven clash at Marvel Stadium this Saturday?
The Blues enter this game at 4-2, which sees them sit safely within the top eight. Their losses came on the road against the Suns and Freo. Carlton’s form at home has surpassed pre-season expectations and we expect they will continue to perform well at Marvel Stadium against other sides excluding those in the top four. As a young side under new coaching there will be hiccups, but Carlton players appear to be enjoying the freedom under Voss and are playing an attacking brand of footy.
North Melbourne enter the match at 1-5 having faced a tough early draw. Three of their defeats come at the hands of finals contenders in Sydney, Brisbane, and Geelong, so the form is not as bad as it might appear. They held the Hawks to 20 points and beat a depleted Eagles side and we should see their true capabilities as they play other sides outside the top eight. Realistically, they are aiming to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon, and will view any 2022 victory as a bonus.
Key matchup: Adam Cerra vs Jy Simpkin
The Carlton midfield is bristling with young talent, but we’re going to focus on Adam Cerra. The budding 22-year-old has plenty of upside, knows how to find the ball, and averages five tackles per game. His job is made easier by presence of Patrick Cripps and George Hewett, but Cerra is forging his own path. North Melbourne didn’t have a single player hit 100 AFL Fantasy points in round six, a worrying statistic. Jy Simpkin is an upcoming midfield talent, so our key match-up here is Cerra versus Simpkin in a battle of young gun mids who should be ready to break out.
Carlton vs North Melbourne betting strategy
The early line has been set at 24.5 points and it’s hard to imagine that Carlton won’t win by more than four goals if they play anything close to their best. They will take the game on, playing on quickly out of the back half, and accumulate plenty of inside 50 opportunities. Sometimes the simple bets work out best, and we’re happy to be on the Blues -24.5 points here.
Carlton -24.5
Carlton vs North Melbourne same-game multi
To add some value to our tickets here we’ll link Carlton -24.5, into Jack Martin as an anytime goalkicker, into Adam Cerra 25+ disposals. This combo will return $3.82 on Ladbrokes and should make the game a little more entertaining. Cerra caught the eye against the Dockers in round six and looks to be thriving under the new coaching methods.
