Round 11: Carlton v Gold Coast preview
The Gold Coast Suns are looking for their third consecutive victory as they make the trip down to Marvel Stadium to face the Carlton Blues in Saturday AFL action.
At home, the Blues enter round 11 as strong favourites at -222.22 with Neds, while the Suns offer a value selection at +188. The handicap has been set at 14.5 points.
Last Friday, the Blues suffered their biggest loss of the season as they went down by 52 points to the Sydney Swans at the SCG. It was a positive start for Michael Voss’ side, who kicked the first four goals of the match; however, it was all downhill from there, with Carlton managing just four goals after quarter time as the Swans’ star-studded midfield ran riot.
With three losses in their past four matches, the Blues have fallen outside the top eight for the first time this season. However, the market does not seem worried by their recent form, as top AFL bookmakers still have them at -333.33 to make the top eight and +650 to win the premiership.
With one of the most extensive injury lists in the AFL, the struggles continue for Carlton as they lose ruckman Marc Pittonet to a finger complaint. Meanwhile, key defender Jacob Weitering is a test after suffering a corkie against the Swans.
Running defender Adam Saad headlines the list of possible returns for the Blues, while both Lachie Fogarty and Jesse Motlop are also facing fitness tests. Lewis Young is the likely inclusion if Weitering is unfit.
The Gold Coast Suns secured their most impressive win of the season last Thursday as they beat the Geelong Cats by 64 points in Darwin. Kicking their highest-ever score of 164, the Suns were unstoppable going forward as Bailey Humphrey and Jack Lukosius both kicked five goals, while star midfielder Noah Anderson had 42 disposals and two goals.
With back-to-back 10-goal wins boosting their percentage, Gold Coast are now back inside the top eight. There are still doubts as to whether the Suns will play finals for the first time in 2024, however, as online bookies have them pegged at +120 for a top-eight finish.
Gold Coast captain Jarrod Witts is expected to return in the ruck after being managed last week, with Ned Moyle the likely swap. Young key forward Jed Walter is also a chance to return in favour of veteran Sam Day.

Carlton Blues v Gold Coast Suns betting tips
Despite coming in as the in-form side, there are still major doubts around the Suns, given they are yet to win a game away from home in 2024. Only percentage separates these teams on the ladder, so this match should be close; however, as it is at Marvel Stadium, back Carlton to win by 1-39 points at +105 with top online bookmakers.
After a quiet night in Sydney, the pressure is on Carlton captain Patrick Cripps to respond as the Blues risk falling further away from the top eight. Averaging 27.3 disposals per game this season, the 29-year-old is one of the favourites for the Brownlow Medal at +750. As one of the top contested players in the AFL, back Cripps to play a huge role in this game and gather 30 or more disposals at $3.
If Weitering sits out, it will be an excellent opportunity for Gold Coast’s Ben King to continue his excellent start to the season. Sitting in a four-way tie at the top of the Coleman Medal standings after 10 rounds, King is averaging 2.9 goals per game. He has kicked three goals in each of his past four matches, so back him to continue his run with another trio of majors at +110 with Bet365.
