Carlton v Geelong match preview
It’s a blockbuster top-four clash to kick off round 15 of the 2024 AFL Premiership season, as Carlton will look to continue their excellent form when they take on Geelong at the MCG this Friday night.
At home, the Blues come in as favourites at $1.58 with PlayUp, while the Cats are paying $2.43 with Unibet. The line is set at 9.5 points.
Carlton had the bye last weekend, but in round 13 they secured an important 26-point win over Essendon. Michael Voss’ men managed the game well and were particularly efficient from limited opportunities.
With three wins in a row, the Blues have now worked their way up to second on the ladder. After a preliminary final appearance in 2023, top AFL bookmakers have Carlton on the second line of premiership betting at $5.50.
There may be a selection squeeze for the Princes Park club this week, as Adam Cerra, Marc Pittonet, Matt Cottrell, David Cunningham and Jack Martin are all in line to return from injury.
Before their bye in round 14, Geelong faced the Sydney Swans and fell by 30 points. Despite kicking the first six goals of the match, Chris Scott’s charges fell away in the second half and were unable to stop the Sydney attack.
As a result, the Cats have dropped out of the top four for the first time this season. After a 7-0 start, they have now lost five of their last six matches and sit in sixth on the AFL ladder.
Geelong are also set for plenty of key changes this week as veteran trio Patrick Dangerfield, Cam Guthrie and Zach Tuohy return from injury. Young ruckman Toby Conway is also a chance to play, replacing Rhys Stanley.

Carlton v Geelong R15 predictions
Carlton have shown their premiership credentials with comfortable wins over other top-eight sides in their past two matches. Although they lost to the Cats back in round seven, this is now a completely different Geelong side that is struggling to hold its place in the eight. As favourites for this clash, back Carlton to cover the -9.5 handicap at $1.91 with top AFL betting sites.
One of the more underrated off-season signings, Elijah Hollands has emerged as a key part of Carlton’s side in 2024. The former Sun is rapidly improving, as shown by his 19 disposals and three goals against the Bombers in round 13. Averaging a goal per game this season, don’t be surprised if Hollands kicks two or more goals at $3.30 with top sports bookmakers.
Geelong defender Tom Stewart has received plenty of attention from opposition forwards in recent weeks. While the five-time All-Australian hasn’t been allowed to play at his intercepting best, he’s gone under 20 disposals just twice this season. Expect a big performance from the veteran, who offers excellent value to collect 25 or more disposals at $3.15 with AFL bookies.
