Caffeine positive costs Coffey $2500

Swan Hill trainer Austy Coffey has been fined $2500 over a positive swab to caffeine returned by one of his horses after a maiden win.

Coffey pleaded guilty to presenting Burrum’s Buzz to race at Swan Hill on September 23 when caffeine and its metabolite Theophylline were detected in a post-race urine sample taken from the gelding.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary board fined Coffey $2000 on Wednesday.

Coffey was also fined $500 for failing to record the treatment of ITZ MAGIC, a medication administered orally to Burrum’s Buzz.

Burrum’s Buzz has been disqualified from his Swan Hill win.
