Cabeirian to give Gary Doughty a boost

Cabeirian will be out to post a hat-trick when he races at Doomben for trainer Gary Doughty.

Trainer Gary Doughty missed seeing a stable winner on Wednesday but hopes his recovery from recent surgery will allow him to watch Cabeirian attempt a hat-trick of wins at Doomben.

A former jockey, Doughty had bowel surgery in 2017 and had a follow-up operation last month because of complications.

He missed seeing Cabeirian win his first Saturday metropolitan class race at the Sunshine Coast on January 26 but is keen to be trackside for Saturday’s Class Six Plate (1200m).

Doughty made it back to the track last Saturday to watch another of his horses run at Doomben but the extremely hot conditions meant he missed seeing Husson’s Pride, trained by his wife Kelly, win at Doomben on Wednesday.

“Gary got back to the races last Saturday but it took a bit out of him and he missed Wednesday but he hopes to be there on Saturday,” Kelly Doughty said.

“Gary lost six kilos but he is feeling OK. He has always had high hopes for Cabeirian and the horse is now hitting his straps.”

Cabeirian is a half brother by top sire Snitzel to the Doughtys’ war horse Flamboyer who won nine races and $576,000 prize money.
