Bundesliga Matchday 23 preview, betting tips & goalscorer odds
The 2023/24 Bundesliga season continues this weekend with nine matches of top-flight German football. Here are our free soccer betting tips for Matchday 23.
Bayer Leverkusen vs FSV Mainz
Saturday, February 24 – 6:30am AEDT – BayArena
After Bayern Munich suffered their second loss in a row last weekend, Bayer Leverkusen now find themselves eight points clear at the top of the table. Still undefeated this season, Leverkusen should keep their streak going as they welcome relegation battlers Mainz on Friday night. With the best defensive record in the Bundesliga, look for Leverkusen to shut out the 17th-placed side, which has just 17 goals from 22 matches.
Bayer Leverkusen to win to nil
Borussia Monchengladbach vs VfL Bochum
Sunday, February 25 – 1:30am AEDT – BORUSSIA-PARK
Following their incredible upset victory over Bayern Munich, VfL Bochum are now nine points clear of the relegation zone. Heading to Monchengladbach this weekend, they face a relegation rival that sits just three points behind them. In the midst of a horror season, Monchengladbach badly need points to avoid the drop, but with just one win from their past eight, it is hard to see them managing more than a draw.
Draw
Union Berlin vs FC Heidenheim
Sunday, February 25 – 1:30am AEDT – Stadion An der Alten Forsterei
Union Berlin have turned their form around in 2024, suffering just one loss and winning their past two in a row. FC Heidenheim are also having an excellent start to the year, despite losing to Leverkusen last weekend. Form suggests this will be a low-scoring clash; the last eight Union Berlin matches have gone under 2.5 goals, while Heidenheim have gone under in four of their past six.
Under 2.5 goals
VfB Stuttgart vs FC Koln
Sunday, February 25 – 1:30am AEDT – MHPArena
Sitting comfortably in third position, the wins keep coming for VfB Stuttgart as they hunt a surprise top-four finish. Against the struggling FC Koln this weekend, expect them to continue on their excellent run of form. With the odds heavily skewed in Stuttgart’s favour, look for the home side to keep against the worst attack in the Bundesliga.
Stuttgart to win to nil
Werder Bremen vs SV Darmstadt
Sunday, February 25 – 1:30am AEDT – wohninvest WESERSTADION
With just one loss from their past nine matches, Werder Bremen are one of the form teams in the Bundesliga. Now sitting just four points out of the top six, the chase for European football continues as they welcome the last-placed SV Darmstadt this weekend. With Bremen coming in as heavy favourites with the top Bundesliga bookmakers, look to add on the over market as they face the worst defensive side in the Bundesliga.
Werder Bremen / Over 2.5 goal
Bayern Munich vs RB Leipzig
Sunday, February 25 – 4:30am AEDT – Allianz Arena
After a horror couple of weeks, Bayern Munich have lost their past three matches and their title hopes have crumbled. After announcing the departure of manager Thomas Tuchel during the week, Bayern will be out to turn their form around as they face fellow top-six side RB Leipzig. Bayern are winless in the last four meetings between these sides, and Leipzig striker Lois Openda looms as a major threat after scoring in each of his past five matches.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Wolfsburg
Monday, February 26 – 1:30am AEDT – Deutsche Bank Park
Without a win in their past four matches, the pressure is rising on Eintracht Frankfurt to hold onto sixth place. They face a tricky test this weekend against Wolfsburg, who have drawn five of their past six matches. Wolfsburg are also unbeaten in their past five matches against Frankfurt, including a 2-0 win earlier in the season. This suggests that this game should be very close, with a draw offering value.
Draw
Borussia Dortmund vs TSG Hoffenheim
Monday, February 26 – 3:30am AEDT – Signal Iduna Park
Earning just one win from their past 15 matches, a mid-season slump has become a genuine cause for concern at TSG Hoffenheim. Facing a tough away trip to Dortmund, it is hard to see their form turning around against a team battling for a top-four spot. With the odds skewed heavily towards Dortmund, watch for striker Niclas Fullkrug to get on the scoresheet after posting six goals and two assists in his past four matches.

FC Augsburg vs SC Freiburg
Monday, February 26 – 5:30am AEDT – WWK Arena
On a terrible run of form, FC Augsburg have tumbled down the table towards the relegation zone. Now they host a Freiburg side that is similarly out of form with no wins in five games. Finally getting some relief from facing top-six sides, Freiburg should be too good as they extend their 10-match unbeaten streak between the teams.
Freiburg to win
