Bundesliga Matchday 17 free betting preview, tips & top odds
The Bundesliga returns from their winter break this weekend with nine exciting matches of top-flight German soccer. Here are our tips and previews for Matchday 17 of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season.
Bayern Munich vs TSG Hoffenheim
Saturday, January 13 – 6:30am AEDT – Allianz Arena
Just four points behind the top of the table, Bayer Leverkusen, with a game in hand, Bayern resume their title hunt with a must-win clash this weekend. Facing the seventh-placed Hoffenheim at home, Bayern are expected to dominate this match. English striker Harry Kane has been excellent since joining Bayern this season, as he is the leading scorer in Europe. With little value in him as an anytime scorer, back the forward to score first.

FC Augsburg vs Bayer Leverkusen
Sunday, January 14 – 1:30am AEDT – WWK Arena
In first place and undefeated so far this season, Bayer Leverkusen need to keep winning as they look to hold off the inevitable Bayern Munich. Facing a trip to Augsburg this weekend, they are without star forward Victor Boniface, who sustained an injury on international duty. As a result, watch out for his replacement Czech forward, Patrik Schick, who scored a hat-trick in his last match.
Patrik Schick anytime goalscorer
FC Koln vs FC Heidenheim
Sunday, January 14 – 1:30am AEDT – RheinEnergieStadion
In 17th as the lowest scoring side in Europe, FC Koln sacked their coach in the winter break in hopes of revitalising their season. This weekend, their struggles look likely to continue as they welcome FC Heidenheim, who have won their past three matches. With the home advantage and under a new coach, expect Koln to put in an improved performance, but it should still be a low-scoring game with minimal chances.
Under 2.5 Goals
SC Freiburg vs Union Berlin
Sunday, January 14 – 1:30am AEDT – Europa-Park Stadion
After finding form with a 5-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt before the break, SC Freiburg now sits just out of the top six on goal difference. Union Berlin also secured a vital win before the break, as they have worked themselves out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. The last three matches between these sides have had over five goals each, so although Freiburg should be too strong here, the safer bet appears to be backing the goals.
Over 2.5 Goals
FSV Mainz vs VfL Wolfsburg
Sunday, January 14 – 1:30am AEDT – MEWA ARENA
In the midst of a disappointing season so far, FSV Mainz earned an impressive draw against Borussia Dortmund just before the break. Looking to build on the result, they face an inconsistent Wolfsburg side that has lost three of their past four matches. Playing at home and desperate for a win, Mainz is primed for an upset here.
FSV Mainz to win
RB Leipzig vs Eintracht Frankfurt
Sunday, January 14 – 1:30am AEDT – Red Bull Arena
Quietly putting together a solid season, RB Leipzig have now climbed up to fourth place and are undefeated in their past four matches. Looking to solidify their top-four spot, Leipzig now welcomes the unpredictable Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt is in sixth spot, have not kept a clean sheet in their past ten, and haven’t scored in their past three away matches. Facing RB Leipzig, who are excellent at home, expect Frankfurt to continue their poor away form.
RB Leipzig to win
SV Darmstadt vs Borussia Dortmund
Sunday, January 14 – 4:30am AEDT – Merck-Stadion am Bollenfalltor
Sat bottom of the table and winless in their past nine, it won’t get much easier for SV Darmstadt this weekend as they welcome Borussia Dortmund. Having had a poor season by their standards, Dortmund sit six points out of the top four but should still be far too good here. With the odds skewed in favour of Dortmund, look for extra value in the goals as they face by far the worst defence in the Bundesliga.
Borussia Dortmund & Over 2.5 Goals
VfL Bochum vs Werder Bremen
Monday, January 15 – 1:30am AEDT – Vonovia Ruhrstadion
A critical match in the relegation picture, VfL Bochum will be looking to add to their four-match unbeaten run at home as they welcome Werder Bremen. Despite winning their previous two matches against VfL Bochum, Werder Bremen have the worst away record in the Bundesliga with just two points so far. The home side present good value for a win here.
VfL Bochum to win
Borussia Monchengladbach vs VfB Stuttgart
Monday, January 15 – 3:30am AEDT – BORUSSIA-PARK
Continuing their excellent season so far, third-placed Stuttgart face the dangerous Borussia Monchengladbach this weekend. Despite sitting in 12th place, Monchengladbach still has the quality to compete with the top sides in the Bundesliga. Stuttgart are also missing star striker Serhou Guirassy, which will impact their forward threat. With the game in Monchengladbach, expect this to be a tight contest.
