Round 18 of the NBL continues Saturday night with the Brisbane Bullets hosting the New Zealand Breakers at Nissan Arena.
The Breakers will be looking to capitalise on their last game of the regular season in order to advance past the NBL play-in tournament, straight to the NBL Finals.
The last time these two sides met, the Breakers were dominant in every facet of the game, leading the Bullets at every quarter to record an enormous win. With the Bullets losing their last two matches and their season well and truly over, will history repeat itself?
The Breakers have won their last two matches against the Bullets by large margins with nothing suggesting that trend will be broken any time soon. The Breakers are the safest bet in this match and should win comfortably, covering the +11 point margin at $1.90 with Ladbrokes.
The Breakers biggest strength all season has been their ability to restrict their opposition to incredibly low scores with their strong defence, giving them great freedom on the offensive end. The Bullets have already shown this season playing at home gives them no great advantage, meaning the Breakers should be able to put the clamps on the Bullets again, keeping the total match points for the game below 179.5 ($1.95).
As the Breakers restrict the Bullets with their defensive pressure, freeing the Breakers up offensively, this provides great value in one specific betting market. As the Breakers did in their last match against the Bullets, they will be able to record the highest scoring quarter of the match ($1.36). This will come through the offense of Barry Brown Jr, Jarrell Brantley and Dererk Pardon who average almost 5o points per game between them.
Key matchup: Tyler Johnson v Barry Brown Jr
If the Bullets are any chance of upsetting the Breakers in Brisbane, they will have to do it via Tyler Johnson. Once a brilliant player for the Phoenix Suns in the NBA, Johnson knows all too well how elite teams can defend, and how to penetrate that defence. Johnson was incredibly efficient in his scoring against the Taipans in their last match and will need to replicate that performance in order to lift the Bullets to a win in their final game at home.
